CASEBEER

The artist Casebeer has her degree in journalism and you can certainly see the influence of writing in her work. Her mixed media paintings explore meaningful coincidence by building layers of text, as well as painted and drawn elements, photographic cutouts, and found illustrations. An image is gathered from these ambiguous and fragmentary relationships. The process of collaging, painting, drawing, editing, scratching out, adding and deconstructing, the work eventually pushes forth its own story.

Casebeer lives in Portland, Oregon after many years in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived in the Hotel Chelsea in NYC during an interesting stint that included 9/11. She was born in Spain. Her undergraduate and graduate studies shared both writing and visual art pursuits.
